Morocco has strict foreign exchange regulations. Here's what every tourist and resident needs to know about importing, exporting, and exchanging currencies.

Importing Foreign Currency to Morocco

  • No limit: Tourists can bring unlimited foreign currency into Morocco.
  • Declaration required: Amounts equivalent to 100,000+ MAD must be declared to customs using form J7.
  • Keep your receipt: The customs declaration is needed for re-exporting unused funds.

Exporting Dirhams

  • The Dirham is non-convertible: You cannot take more than 2,000 MAD out of Morocco.
  • Reconversion: Exchange leftover Dirhams back to your currency at the airport using your original exchange receipt.
