Exchange Bureau Fees Morocco: Commissions, Spread and Tips
Understanding the real cost of exchanging money in Morocco: commissions, spread, and how to minimise fees.
What Is the Spread?
The spread is the difference between the buying rate and the selling rate. It's the bureau's profit margin. A narrower spread = better deal for you. In Morocco, city bureaus typically have spreads of 0.10-0.30 MAD per Euro, while airports can reach 0.50-1.00 MAD.
Types of Fees
- Fixed commission: A flat fee per transaction (e.g. 20-50 MAD). Many city bureaus have eliminated this.
- Hidden spread: No "commission" but a wider buy/sell gap. The most common model.
- Minimum transaction: Some bureaus may require a minimum exchange amount.
How to Pay Zero Commission
Most city exchange bureaus in Morocco operate on a "Net Rate" basis — no fixed fees, just the spread. Use Deviz.ma to compare net rates and find the bureau with the tightest spread near you.
