Buying Price of Euro in Morocco Today: Buying vs Selling Rate

When checking the price of the Euro in Morocco, you will see two numbers: the buying rate and the selling rate. Which one applies to you? How much will you actually receive? We explain it all.

πŸ” Buying vs Selling: Who is buying from whom?

This is the #1 source of confusion. When an exchange bureau displays rates, it’s from their perspective, not yours!

  • BUYING Rate: The price at which the bureau buys your Euros. If you arrive in Morocco with Euros, THIS rate applies. It is the LOWER numerical value.
  • SELLING Rate: The price at which the bureau sells Euros to you. If you leave Morocco and convert dirhams back to Euros, THIS rate applies.

πŸ’‘ The Golden Rule

Arriving in Morocco (EUR β†’ MAD)? Look at the BUYING rate. Higher is better.
Leaving Morocco (MAD β†’ EUR)? Look at the SELLING rate. Lower is better.

πŸ“Š Exchange Spread by Location

The difference between the buying and selling rate is the "spread" (the intermediary's profit margin). Here is how much value you lose per €1,000 exchanged:

Intermediary Average Spread Money Lost per 1000€
City Exchange Bureau 0.5 β€” 1.5% 50 β€” 150 MAD
Traditional Bank 2 β€” 4% 200 β€” 400 MAD
Airport / Hotel 8 β€” 15% 800 β€” 1,500 MAD !
